On Saturday June 16, 2007, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, the
Faith Based Health Outreach and Referral Network (HORN) and Amani Trinity United Community Health Corporation collaborated
to present, “May I Walk with You? Pastoral Support in Life’s Sacred Final Journey”. The setting was the
Mabel Manning Branch of the Chicago Public Library (see photographs below).
This clergy training program was developed
in consultation with area clergy who recognize VITAS as a leader in the hospice care field.
Vitas provided clinically trained professionals who helped them design a certificate based training program, which
focused on key areas they believe are critical to their efforts to provide support to members of their congregations and their
families; especially those facing end of life challenges.
Nearly fifty participants, each engaged in
some form of ministerial and spiritual support within their respective congregation, participated in this all day event. Many
different faith traditions were represented. This diversity added depth and richness to the dialogue.
Results from the program evaluation have been
encouraging. Comments include:
ü “Very interesting!”
ü ”Thank you, I was looking for ways to help someone else and found help for myself. This was a day
well spent.”
ü “Excellent presentation; extremely informative”
ü “An excellent seminar/workshop. One of my most enjoyable”
ü “Thank you! God Bless all of you”
